Road trip, ACOWAR, and the Hedgeathon

June has just flown by! The fact that July is here makes me sort of sad. Here are some highlights from June.

I went on a road trip. I went on a ten day road trip to the Grand Canyon, up to Yellowstone, down to Mt. Rushmore and then finally Pike’s Pike. I had a blast in Yellowstone, it was way colder than expected. In fact it was snowing the first day we were there, plus there was a lot of leftover snow on the ground so we got to play in the snow and build an actual snowman. For those of you that live in Texas you might understand why it was so exciting for my family to get to build a snowman. It rarely snows here and when it does it’s more like an ice slush and never enough for a real snowman.

I finally read A Court of Wings and Ruin. ACOWAR was so good, but I had some minor problems with it. I can’t really get into them in this post because ~spoilers~ . Nonetheless it was a really good. I also read Boys of Summer  by Jessica Brody earlier in the month.

I have decided to do The Hedgeathon again this year! However, I decided to do a mini Hedgeathon this time. It’s going to take place the last week of July and the first week of August. I’ll post details about it once it’s closer.

How is your summer going? Have you read any good books this summer?

Hello 2017, I swear I’m still here

Hello everyone! I’m so excited to finally be back from my disappearance. I have been sick literally the whole month of January. In fact I didn’t even read a single book in the month of January, (shameful I know). I have been teaching then coming home and doing next to nothing. I have however watched the first three seasons of Parenthood on Netflix.

Thankfully, I am finally back to feeling more like myself this week. I was going to post a whole 2016 recap but I think it’s a bit late for that one, so I am just going to move on and not look in the past. I am so excited for February, I can’t believe that it has been almost a year since I started this blog. I’ve got some fun posts planned for this month, and some books that I hope to get around to reading. I’m already sort of behind on my 2017 goals but I’m gonna post them anyway and try to catch up.

  • Read 50 books. Every year I try to read 100 books and every year I fail. So I decided that this year I wouldn’t set myself up for failure again. I think I may actually reach my goal this year.
  • Finally read a classic or two.

  • Hit 100 followers
  • Post at least once a week
  • Receive an ARC

  • Start my middle grade book
  • Finish edits for my Camp NaNo novel
  • Win one of the Camp NaNos or NaNoWriMo

That’s about it. I know this is super sort but hey it’s a blog post right? What are some of your goals for 2017? Anyone else already falling behind?

November Recap

November was an exciting month. I updated the blog a lot and attempted NaNoWriMo. It went by super quickly and I’m so excited that Christmas is almost here!

Books I read:

The Sun is Also a Star by Nicola Yoon

I only read one book this month and I’m glad it was this one.

Booktoberfest Haul

Paper Towns

Me and Earl and The Dying Girl

Camp NaNo Editing update

Favorite book of the month:

The Sun is Also a Star. My review should be up later this week.

Things I did this month:

I had a birthday. My birthday was great, my mom made me cheesecake and my students showered me with handmade cards. It was great.

I changed my blog, a lot. It got a new shiny URL with a name to match. I’m way happier with my blog now than I was before.

I failed NaNoWriMo. Which makes me sad, but if I hadn’t failed it then I wouldn’t have started editing my Camp NaNo book from April.

I took my class to the aquarium. It was super fun, we learned a lot, and I sort of want to write a story involving an aquarium now.

I met Nicola Yoon. It was a lot of fun, I’m still working on my post for that even though.

October Recap

October was a terrible reading month, I read literally nothing. I didn’t do much, it was just kind of bleh. Halloween was fun, but I was lazy and didn’t bother with dressing up.  I can’t believe it’s already November, Christmas is right around the corner.

Books I read:

I actually didn’t read any books in October. Unless you count the Judy Moody book I read to my class.

I didn’t post much either, October was just a rough month.

To write or not to Write (writing update)

NaNoWriMo (which isn’t going well at all)

Favorite book of the month:

Judy Moody Saves the World was as great as I remember it being. I love Judy Moody, she’s just so funny.

Things I did this month:

Not much, obviously. But I did start working on the big changes that I put into place on the blog this month.

September Recap

September was a pretty great month overall. I went to Disney World (which was great), and read A Court of Mist and Fury (which was also great), but I didn’t blog very much, (which is not so great). So far October hasn’t been much better blogging wise but there is still time to change.

Books I read:

A Court of Mist and Fury, which was AMAZING. I’ve been working on the review for it for two weeks now and I’m still not done with it. There are just too many things I liked, it’s been hard to narrow it down.

A Court of Thorns and Roses (review) I also did a password protected spoiler post comparing Rhysand and Tamlin, if you want to check that one out go to the main review to get the password and link.

To Write or Not to Write? (writing update)

Favorite book of the month:

A Court of Mist and Fury. This book could easily be my favorite book for the whole year.

Things I did this month:

I went to Disney World, which was awesome. I love Disney World, I go almost every year with my family and it truly is the happiest place on Earth.

I got a new book idea. I haven’t started writing it yet, but I am excited about it.

August Recap

This post is so late, and this recap is missing it’s picture like July’s is because my computer is out to get me and hates my recap photo. Nonetheless, I’m still going to post this. August has been busy for me, but it’s been good to get back in the routine of school. I read two books, which I think is a good accomplishment with the little amount of time I had to read. I should be able to read more books in September since I have a week off of school and I’m driving to Disney World.

Books I read:

If Only

The Geography of You and Me

July Recap

If Only (review)

Favorite book of the month:

If Only

Things I did this month:

I started teaching again. Getting back into school has been an adjustment. I’ve been so tired the past three weeks. I can’t wait for fall break this month when I go to Disney World!

July Recap

Hello, so July was another rough month for me. I had very few posts and I lost Camp NaNo. I ended up having to be at school a lot getting my classroom ready and when I was home I was working on school stuff. School started back so hopefully now that school is back I will get into the routine of blogging again. I know this post is late but I don’t care, I’m posting it anyway.

Books I read:

I read 3 books.

Paper Towns

Me and Earl and the Dying Girl

A Court of Throns and Roses

I didn’t post nearly as much as I should have. Other than the Hedgeathon posts, I only posted one other post.

The Last Star (review)

Favorite book of the month:

A Court of Thorns and roses.

Things I did this month:

Not a whole lot. I lost Camp Nano and I didn’t read a whole lot. However, I did get ready for back to school.

Hedgathon Award update!

I ordered the prizes but they were out of stock so they should be shipped to me this week. They are coming just not as quickly as I would like.

June Recap

I know that I  kind of disappeared in June, which I hate. I thought that I would be really active in June since it’s summer and there is the Hedgeathon going on, but it turned out to be the opposite.  I’m sorry for going so long without posting. My anxiety kind of got the best of me during June but I’m not going to let it ruin my plans for July. In fact I already have a couple of posts lined up for July.

If you haven’t been participating in The Hedgeathon, it isn’t too late. It ends July 31st, that gives you a whole month to read eight books. You can do it, I believe in you! Also, I have to read seven books in July in order to get caught up, so you aren’t alone.

Books I read:

I also got into a reading slump this month and only read two books. I read a middle grade book that I plan to read to my class this fall and I read Expired on Wattpad as my indie book.

(Well this section is embarrassing…)

Hedgeathon summer reading challenge

May Recap

Favorite book of the month:

Expired, which I’m writing a review for. I hope for it to be up next week.

Things I did this month:

I went to Warped Tour. I had never been to a hard rock concert before but this one was awesome and it wasn’t near as bad as everyone made it out to be.

I went berry picking. I spent one morning picking blackberries and blueberries. It was really fun and they blueberries made really good pancakes.

I decided to do Camp NaNoWriMo in July. I hope it’s easier than it was in April.

May Recap

Summer is here and I am so happy! I had two exciting blog things happen this month that I can’t wait to talk about. As far as reading goes it was kind of a slow month. The first two weeks were hard because I had some family stuff going on along with school ending. I’m so thankful that things seemed to calm down and I can’t wait to get a lot of reading done in June.

Books I read:

I only read 3 books this month.  I would have taken a picture of them but I’ve been reorganizing my bookshelves and can’t find them in any of the stacks. When I find them I will update this post.

  1. Exit, Pursued by a Bear
  2. The Last Star
  3. This one was an ebook that I can’t remember the name of.

The Hedgeathon Summer Reading Challenge

Favorite book of the month:

The Last Star by Rick Yancey I have been waiting for this book for so long and even though I am not happy with all of it I still really enjoyed it. I hope to have my review up this week.

Things I did this month:

I got a new header on the site. I am so excited to have the new header up on the blog. I think the hedgehogs are adorable and I just feel like perfectly represents my blog.

I announced the Hedgeathon. If you missed that post click on the link above and check it out. The Hedgeathon is a summer reading challenge that I am so, so excited about.

April Recap

April went by so quickly, it was just here and gone for me. I did not get much reading done, and I missed two review posts which I hate. However, I am giving myself grace since I have been sick for the past two weeks and when I did feel like writing I was working on my book for Camp NaNo.

Books I read:

I only read three books this month, and two of them were books that I read with or to my middle grade class. I also ran out of my cute hedgehog sticky flags so I had to use boring blue ones.

Prepping for North Texas Teen Book Festival (book events)

Favorite book of the month:

Everything, Everything by Nicola Yoon. It was the only YA book I read in April, but nonetheless it still would have won. This book was great, you can check out my review here.

Things I did this month:

Went to the North Texas Teen Book Festival. I had a blast and I will be doing a post about it soon.

Won Came NaNo. I wrote 50K in 30 days. This was a huge thing for me personally and it took me a lot of time and hard work.
